MY HOME

 

In the present text I'm going to discuss the characterization of Zeynep as presented in the first part of the first episode of the dramatic and true life series “ My home” (in English ).

Zeynep is one of the main characters in the story.

 

In order to reach my objected I will follow scene after scene all that the director chose it to do to introduce the girl's personality in the first episode.

It goes without saying that the function of the first episode is to introduce main and secondary characters and, last but not least to raise curiosity so that the reader or watcher will feel involved in the story and, as a result go on watching or reading between the lines ad put themselves to test to introduce how the story will develop.

 

At the beginning the director decides to introduce Zeynep with a close up, she is a young and nice girl who comes to the end of her 20s; she has got long, brown and wavy hair. She has also a professional and elegant style because she is a young law-student. She wears a white shirt.

The director is also telling to intelligent readers indirectly how the characters are and give the watcher the opportunity to find the video involving and interesting.

You will come to learn the lifestyle of them trough some important details.

Zeynep is inside a room, which nothing can be seen except the girl who tells and talks about her life.

While she is talking about her life the director wants to describe her past with some specific scenes by lots of flashback, that is a literary and movie strategy to make the watcher back into Zeynep's past and recreates that exactly situation and moment.

 

Sadly she remembers her childhood. She was born in a very poor family, her father had a job but she never saw him working but her mother was always behind her brothers (one girl and one boy) and Zeynep.

From an early age she used to help her mother and assist her brother when he was ill. She didn't go to school and study because his father forbade it to his children.

An intelligent watcher understands that the father was the head of the family and he gave them a strict and austere education.

Zeynep remembers that one day, his father Bayram , who is an alcoholic one , returned home, discovered that she was studying, so he suddenly became violent and he beat her wife up and after his son who tried to defend his mother.

The director used an indirect characterization, he shows the watcher things about the character to help us have an understanding of the character's personality and effect on other characters. He also wants to give the watcher the opportunity to understand that Zeynep's father isn't a good one. The daughter is scared and terrified about him so she started to cry, you can see this from is body language that is very important.

She was even more shocked, when at the age of 8 she saw her brother die in front of her.

 

One day her mother made the sad decision to entrust her to a woman who wanted a daughter and could give the girl a normal education.

Since that day

Zeynep is trapped between two different lives and their mothers. On the one hand, she is crushed by the sacrifices of her own mother, while on the other hand she tries to back up the dreams of her other mother for her. While trying to maintain the balance between the two sides for years, Zeynep continues to question who she really is and which family's daughter she is. This is the only question that Zeynep has never found the answer to.

The director wants to represent the time jump through the zeynep scene as a child who goes to sleep and wakes up as a woman.

On returning from university Zeynep is forced to stop on the street because some children for a joke puncture the wheels of her car. She is in the neighborhood where she lived as a child and many memories come back to her; she isn't also so happy to be there.

She stops in front of a body shop where she meets Mehid and his staff.

He is about 35 years old and he is a young and attractive man, very unselfish because he helps poor people and gives them a shelter.

When Mehdi meets Zeynep he is enchanted by her beauty and generosity because she has helped Mehdi's sister.

The director wants to give some suspence to the audience so they will find the video involving and interesting.
