The albatross together with other large sea birds makes up the Diomedeide family. They are able to remain suspended in the air without flapping their wings and in the presence of wind for hours, but in the absence of wind they struggle to maintain the flight, and therefore prefer to rest in the water. Like other birds they feed on sea water and squid, but they also follow the ships of tourists and feed with the waste that is thrown into the sea. |
