The scene I am going to analyse takes place in Sanem’s home, in the garden.

The first think an intelligent watcher can notice is the use of the colours: the main ones are green, which symbolise hope, magenta, symbol of energy, and grey, like doubts.

The director chose to represent Sanem’s inner clash, between Can’s lack and the desire to overcome the past, by colours. Also Sanem and Can’s dressing colours are in contrast: while she’s wearing a white sweater, bright and pure, the man wears a long, grey coat, as if he would try to cover his faults.

Sanem’s inner conflict is underlined by her body; when Can calls the girl, her eyebrows raise like her glance: her instinctive react block her moves. She’s crystallized; she is living a hoped, but not wanted, moment; at first, Sanem is not able to react, like an insane person.

In a moment she resume her work with more energy, about to cruelty; it seems as if she has forgotten Can’s presence.

Can’s reaction to Sanem’s impassivity highlights his self-assurance’s buckle; he slowly moves close the girl, speaks to her with an evident embarrassment and, in front of Sanem’s refusal to talk, he leaves her. All this shows the truly reason of his visit: he doesn’t want to solve their problems but only to detach from his ex-girlfriend and to silence his feelings, his heart: he is resigned.

The music improves the atmosphere; at first, it is sweat but, at the same time, it is plenty of tension; it surrounds the scene and the speaking voices.

Violins create a sense of suspension, a string which is close to be broken: the blade is a word, “farewell”, the main word of the scene I am considering. After that, music is sustained by cellos, heavy and sullen, which represent Sanem’s thoughts: another departure, another inside ruin.

After these static moments the director moves the scene: Sanem runs and tries to join Can. It is a symbolic running, a daily one: the precariousness, the passions and the heart which have to follow, to be subjugated by rationality and senses, which bring to be crushed after a losing, like Sanem after Can’s departure; they are made by memories, by flashbacks, while reason is the opposite, it pushes to go on and to pass the past.

In the following scene, watchers can see Sanem crying on a ring and Can smelling the handkerchief the girl gifted him.

Why Can, which is the rationality, is lost in his thoughts? Why Sanem, the feelings, decided to deal with the future and to chase the man?

Because they are both connected which each other; there is a connection between soul and body, between reasoning and impulsiveness. A person can not live if he is lustful or not self-controlled.
