Analysis on Oliver wants some more (page 303/304)

Considering the title it makes the reader think that this text is going to tell the story of Oliver, that in this case is asking for more, but it’s unknown of what he wants more.

The structure of this text is usual and in the final part there is a direct speech dialogue.

The content of the text is kids being treated really bad and given only a small bowl, the size of a spoon, of gruel to eat everyday, so a too small amount of food to survive with. So Oliver asks for some more, but he gets isolated by the group by the order of Mr Limbkins, that stated that Oliver was going to be hung .

From what the reader can understand by the text, Oliver is a really brave kid, that doesn’t back up in front of difficulties of life and faces it without being scared of getting punished by others.

Dickens uses a lot of comparisons to make the reader understand the struggling this kids were going through, like the bowl being polished by them with their spoons and the bowl being a little bit larger of the spoon’s size and the taller kid stating that hunger will eventually bring him to eat the boy that slept next him.

So the overall effect that this text creates in the reader is sadness for reading the difficulty of that times for kids to survive and almost dying of hunger because of some greedy men.

So this text could be a good fit for everyone, obviously except younger children, because this text is too much difficult to comprehends and underlines some really sad aspects of life.
