Early bird

Early bird is a Turkish film divided into episodes with English subtitles.

In the following text I will deal with the analysis of the places and the different scenes of the first part of the first episode.

To produce a better analysis, after listening to the various scenes several times and carefully reading the subtitles, I focused on the setting that the director chose to tell the story of the film.

I then proceed to the analysis.

The director in the opening scene presents the start of the day.

It is a sunny morning, and from how the actors are dressed, even rather warm.

The houses are particularly colorful, with well-kept terraces full of vases with wonderful flowers.

The street, (a place where, as described in the previous analysis, San, the protagonist, and the other dancers dance) is clean, small gardens decorate its side and the inhabitants of the town all seem very welcoming and happy.

The director wants to immediately convey the behavioral characteristics and personality of the girl through this scenography.

By means of the warm and serene day, it denotes the optimism, the energy and the joy that characterize San, but it also wants to present its profoundly dreamy nature, as it will later be understood that the initial scene was the fruit of the girl's imagination .

In the second scene the director brings the girl back to reality.

The day is still sunny, but there is no one on the road who joyously dances: only a street sweeper and an old woman.

San now stands in front of the shutters of his small shop where he sells food.

The director in this scene then decides to show us the true everyday reality of San, not the fruits of his imagination.

The girl, despite her liveliness, seems almost resigned and downcast to having to live in a monotonous, routine country with a closed mind like that.

In the last scene seen at school San is inside his grocery store.

The place is small, but from the short footage that the director makes with the general framing, it seems well organized: the products are arranged in special shelves or shelves and San seems to be quite good at it.

The colors are bright; in this characteristic of the shop the director may have wanted to recall elements of the girl's personality, such as enthusiasm, to better denote her character.
