Ulysses and Telemachus are in opposition: the son loves Ithaca while Ulysses leave it. This creates in the reader a sense of loss in the reader. 5) This poem is written as a dramatic monologue: the entire poem is spoken by a single character, whose identity is revealed by his own words. The poem is divided into four paragraph-like sections, each of which comprises a distinct thematic unit of the poem. There are no rhymes. The meter is a free verse.
