Tomorrow morning we watched an extract from the first episode of Early Bird, which is a Turkish TV series. The purpose of the present text is to analyze the strategies used by the film director to characterize San. I think he wants the spectator to think that San is out of her place.

First of all, in the very first part of the extract you can notice that San wears nude clothes, shoes and make up, while all the others are dressed with very showy colours and impressive makeup. This shows her insecurity.  In addition she still has got her bag on, that means she has not already settled down there. Considering de dynamic music and the continue shift of the point of view, you can feel she is a little disoriented.

Going on, considering her outfit for the evening ceremony, she still wears a modest dress but with red shoes. On the other hand, Mr Jan’s girlfriend wears nude shoes. Considering that shoes are the only thing visible in the lodge, this means that after all considering that contest San is more impressive than the other girl.

To conclude, considering the last scene of the extract, the scenes change slower. This lets the spectator think San s no more disoriented.
