The object of the present text is to discuss about the strategies used by the film director to characterise Sanem.

I am going to analyse a scene belonging to the Episode 1 of ERKENCI KUS a Turkish series. 

First of all, with “strategies” I means colours, music and sets used by the director, the characters’ body language, dialogue, the way in which they relate to each other and their behaviour which are useful to create a character’s characterisation.

According to the scene, what appears immediately clear is that Sanem is not a “normal person”, she is peculiar and different from the other characters.

She is an office worker and she is not able to shut up since she always says what she thinks. 

Everybody judge her and her qualities and she is considered not popular, her qualities are not recognised but are criticised. One of her colleague calls her “another” in order to make her feel bad and to highlight her superior to Sanem. 

I think people are aware she is smarter then them and they act like this because they could not understand anybody is more intelligent.

The register used different music according to the situation: the emphasise a dramatic situation he used a sad song, to match a comic scene he used fanny songs to add irony to the situation or to underline an important moment he used a song that allows spectators to concentrate on the scene.
