In the present text I am going to discuss the structure and the most relevant features of the film “Only you” directed by Hakan Yonan.

Right from the title the intelligent reader/watcher may expect the movie to be about a relationship very strong, where the two main characters are essential for each other.  

Considering the structure of the film, you can note it is divided in five main parts:

• The introduction, where the main characters (Ali and Hazal) live their own typical and common day;
• The development of the plot, in which the two protagonists fall in love;
• The event that increases the suspense and represents the most important episode
• The consequences of the precedent event: the protagonists break their bonds;
• The conclusion, that is a happy ending, because the two characters meet again and get engaged.

The partition of the parts is highlighted by some features and strategies the director used. The sound track and the use of colours are the most important.

Indeed, the music increases the emotions and the suspense in the watcher (especially if you listen to the movie with a pair of headphones: it seems to be involved into the story). The music is used in different kinds of episodes such as during the encounters or in the romantic scenes.

In the first example, the sound track is fast but also deep and low as if something dangerous may happen. Instead, in the romantic episode the sound is slow and harmonious, it conveys a sense of happiness and light heartedness.

Considering the use of colours, the director has been very clever, because he employed them to improve every scenery and to focus the attention on the contrast between the main characters.

To tell the truth, in particular at the beginning, the protagonists wear clothes of different colours: while Ali wears a pair of old jeans, a grey t-shirt and a dark sweater, Hazal has a white shirt and a red hoodie, which conveys the idea of energy and love, because red is the colour of passion.

During the development of the story Ali will wear more colourful clothes, especially after falling in love with Hazal. Also the scenery becomes more colourful in the happiest moments. However, when Ali takes part in the encounter, the atmosphere is grey and dark again and the strategy increases the fear of a defeat or of an unhappy ending.

In the end, after a year, the scenery seems bright and colourful again and this conveys the idea of a good ending and raises the watcher’s expectative.

Another characteristic which adds meaning to the movie is the choice of the protagonists. They are very suitable for their roles. Everything has been chosen and studied hard: the attitudes, the language, the clothes, the physical appearance and the personality.

Concluding, you can say the director made a very good job and improved every scene with different strategies and allowed the watcher to feel involved into the story.
