Exercise 11 (page 53)

1) My birthday is in the third of March./ The book is on the fifth shelf.

2) Se oltre al numero ordinale vi è un aggettivo possessivo, l'articolo "the" non si scrive né si pronuncia. Esempio: Virginia is my fourth niece.

3) La data in inglese viene espressa con i numeri ordinali, mentre in italiano con i numeri cardinali, a eccezione del primo giorno del mese.

Exercise 10 (page 5)

1) Se il sostantivo termina in -y ed è preceduto da una consonante cambia la y in i e aggiunge -es, mentre se è preceduto da una vocale mantiene la -y e aggiungono -s.

2) In italiano il pronome personale soggetto è spesso sottointeso, mentre in inglese va sempre espresso.

3) L'errore sarebbe tradurre "essa" con "She" anziché "It" dal momento che la Francia è una nazione, quindi una cosa e non una persona.

Exercise 2 (page 29)

1) That's Ellie's cousin, Hetty. Hetty looks just like her.

Exercise 3 (page 29)

1) Mum, help me with my science project!

2) He's my favourite singer. I love him.

3) My big brother plays basketball really well! I love watching him.

4) Where's my mobile phone? I can't find it.

5) Toby, the line is dreadful! I can't hear you. Speak louder!

6) They can't take the children with them to the restaurant.

7) Our Maths teacher always gives us loads of homework.

Exercise 4 (page 29)

Leo, Henry and Nick are school friends. They hang out with three girls during breaks at school: Elena, Rachel and Anne. Leo likes Elena but she doesn't like him. She likes Henry but he doesn't like her. Henry is best mates with Leo and Nick.

He plays football with them all at weekends. Nick is friends with everybody and gets on with all of them. The girls don't! Elena doesn't get on with Rachel much but Annie gets on well with her. Annie is really friendly and sociable. She gets on with all the girls.

 

Exercise 5 (page 29)

1) -The weather is really awful!

    -Yes, it is really cold today.

2) -Raquel can speak Spanish fluently.

    -I know. Her mother's Spanish.

3) -Is Mr Ball here today?

    -Yes, that's him over here.

4) -My mobile battery is flat.

    -No worries, use mine! I'm not using it.

5) We enjoy our German classes but the grammar is quite hard for us.

6) I can't go online after dinner. My parents don't want me to.

7) -Let's have a pizza and watch a DVD!

    -Great idea! Come to my house!

8) Can you give me a lift to school today? It's raining hard.

9) It is late and we must go home. My mum is waiting for me.

10) -Who is the girl with Betty?

      -He is my cousin.

11) -Who wants to play with my tablet?

      -Me!

12) My neighbours like playing cards in their garden.
