Analysis of a further episode:

In this text I’ll analyse the most relevant aspects of this part of the episode, in particular I will analyse the interactions between the characters, their actions, reactions and language to understand what’s possible from these framings. To accomplish my goal I will write down my opinions about the scenes, as I didn’t know anything about the comedy.

Even from the very first second the atmosphere is already set: can easily understand this is going to be a very upsetting, strong and hard (for the storyline) scene. The framing opens up with what is supposed to be a happy setting, you cans see a Luna Park in the background, the soundtrack coming from the introductory song is enjoyable, joyful, but, as soon as the music stops the watcher get plunged into a most serious conversation between the protagonists.

The choice to make a contrast between the setting and the upsetting conversation that is about to start is made by the film director to make the watcher pay attention to the conversation.

This framing starts with a confession Sanem makes to Can, she’s revealing a truth to Can, and on this truth she might have built so many things, between even a relationship. The way she is introduced make already her appear as a victim, a person really upset for what she made and who really is begging for forgiveness. Everything about her makes this impression: first of all her tears, a person who is not actually sorry for their actions would never cry in such a pathetic way; second, her body language, she’s trying to get close to Can, but she’s not allowed by him to do that. The most important thing the watcher can understand by this confession about Sanem is that she is n emotive person, she does not think through her rational skills, but through her emotions and feelings. All of these characteristics make Sanem look upset, pleading, even pathetic, but not guilty, even if she’s the one in wrong.

On the other hand you have Can, he first looks astonished: he does not know what to think nor what to say, you can see how hard it is for him to complete a sentence and the ways he repeats always the same words. These choices underline how much his feeling for her were and the idea he made of her got completely destroyed. After the confusion finishes, he starts to become aggressive: he raises his tone of voice, he avoids physical contact with her and when he asks for explanations does not even let her finish a sentence without jumping to conclusions. All of these characteristics make him appear as a determinate person, who does not change his mind, but not in a positive way this time. In this case he does not even want to listen to her, that’s because he’s really hurt and tries to understand without letting his feeling come out. You could say he’s a rational person, but in this circumstances he only appears as an aggressor, not listening to such a hurt person like Sanem is in this moment.

All these details are the result of the film director’s choices to make Sanem look like a hurt victim who’s really sorry for her actions, and can as an emotionless monster who does not care about other people feelings.

When the name of Emre come out in the conversation, the setting changes, the watcher can now see a dark street, that already look shady, but then here it comes Emre, with a bag full of what most probably is money, about to meet a suspicious man in a solitary street. This is not a coincidence, obviously the film director made Emre appear now to let the watcher understand that Sanem is telling the truth and the Can did not understand a thing about what she’s trying to tell him. Paying attention to the character of Emre, now, you cans see he does not seem to be happy with what he’s doing: he’s aggressive, he feels played and does not trust the man he’s talking to.

At the end of the scene, Can calls to Emre and you can see how angry he is, it means he does not trust at all to Sanem, but he has to find out the truth on his own. After he went away, you can see Sanem took a taxi to go somewhere, at this point a smart watcher would wonder: where is she going? Is she going to look for can? Is she just going home with a broken heart? Is she going somewhere else? The answer could be found just a few second later, when she calls to Mr. Emre, telling the truth to him too; this could appear as a naive or even a nasty behaviour (she’s still playing for the enemy), but a smart watcher would easily understand she’s just a really sincere person, and telling the truth is just a relevant part of her nature.

In conclusion, the finel goal of these first minutes of the episode are aimed to make Sanem appear as a naive victim, who’s sorry for what she did but does not want to betray anybody.
