In the present text I am going to discuss the characterisation of Sanem in the first scene of the sixteenth episode of the romantic comedy “Early Bird”.

The director introduced Sanem with the technique of showing and he presented her interacting with another character. The director used the direct approach to characterisation because he wants the audience to listen to the protagonist talking in first person and not to listen other characters' opinion. In this way the director didn't raise curiousity in the watcher who doesn't feel involved in the story.

It is late and night and the scene starts with a tragic situation because Sanem is making a confession to Can. The director created a contrast between the surrounding landscape and the story. The scene is indeed setting near to a fun fair. The director ensured that Can didn't tell any word to make the viewer curious to know how his reaction will be.

The director used body language to describe the two protagonists' personality.

At the beginning Can looks stoned and incredulous, Sanem moves towards Can, on the other hand he moves away from her. She shows her feelings but Can doesn't. He mumbles short and no sense sentences. Sanem looks trapped from scare because she doesn't know how he will react. Can is confused and he doesn't believe in what she says because he is very disappointed in her. He analyzes what happened but he doesn't want to listen to Sanem and he listens only to himself. He talks to Sanem with an agressive mood and he doesn't give her the way to explain the reasons why she stole the file. The author wants Sanem to appear not like a thief but like a victim. Indeed there is a person who doesn't listen to her and attack her.
