Eveline:

  1. She is an adolescent;

  2. She has only one parent (her mother died);

  3. The only parent she has (her father) is abusive;

  4. She has many brothers;

  5. She is a poor working girl;

  6. Her family isn’t wealthy;

  7. She is secretly dating a boy;

  8. The two lovers belong to two different economic and social classes;

  9. She is really tentative and can not make a choice;

  10. Before giving an answer, she needs to think for a long time;

  11. Her home is like a cradle (a safe place);

  12. She is scared to leave her home, her friends and family;

  13. She cares about what other people think about her and her actions (for example her leaving town).

 

Marianne and Connell:

  1. They are adolescents;

  2. Both of them only have one parent left (both their fathers died);

  3. Marianne’s father used to be abusive, now her mother and brother abuse her;

          Connell’s father abandoned him (it is another form of abution);

  1. Marianne has one bigger brother;

          Connell is an only child;

  1. They don’t work;

  2. Marianne’s family is wealthy;

         Connell’s family is not;

  1. When they were in high school, they had tried to keep their relationship a secret;

  2. They belong to two different economic and social classes;

  3. She is straightforward and independent and she knows what she wants;

          He is tentative and can not make a choice;

  1. She has clear ideas about her opinion of the world so she doesn’t need as much time as Connell does to answer a question;

          Before giving an answer, he needs to think for a long time;

  1. The less time she spends at her house, the better, and when she is at home she prefers her family not to be there, because they are mean with her;

          His home is like a cradle (a safe place);

  1. She can’t wait to leave town to go to college;

          He is scared to leave his home, his friends and family;

  1. She doesn’t care about other people’s opinion, she is not scared to be her true self and to say what she thinks;

          He does, he depends on it and can’t do anything without thinking what will be the impact of his actions in everybody’s mind.
