SETTING IN THE 30 TH EPISODE

In the present text I’m going to discuss the setting of the 30 th episode of the romantic comedy Early Bird. In oreder to reach my objective I will follow scene after scene all the director chooses to do to put that particular setting in that scene.

This episode talks about the moment when Sanem sells her perfume, made by herself, and Can gets mad. He decides to go to his hut faraway from everyone in order to reflect on himself. Sanem goes to the hut because she undrestood that the conflict with Can ( he didn’t answer to Sanem’s call) must have benn born due to the problem of the perfume. The scenes are setting during the late evening so the sky is very dark and moreover the different colours crate a contrast between outside places and inside ones.

The episode starts with a slow up of the taxi that Sanem used to reach Can’s hut. The director chose it to create a contrast between the yellow colour of the taxi and the darkness of the ouside. Also Sanem’s white coat has the function of creating a contrast.

From Sanem’s face, especially her eyes, I can know her feeling. She isn’t happy and she is worried and anxious to enter in the hut.

After that there is a quick image of the hut and we can notice that Can isn’t alone. Inside it there are Can and Polen ( Can’s ex fiance ). They are sitting near a fire that has the metaphorical meaning of love. The hot colours of the hut create a contrats with the cold colours oh the darkness.

Can is thoughtful and his posture communicate it to the audience. He feels beetrayed and he isn’t at ease.

Polen reassures Can and she is doing like the role of a mother. Can hasn’t got a reaction with Polen differently from Sanem. This has the function to make the plot go on and especially to underline the difference attitudes Can has got with the two girls.

Can don’t expect Sanem’s coming. This means that love is always unpredictable and unexpected. Polen  tells immediately to Can that she goes because she feels neglected and she also realises that Can doesn’t give a bloody shit about her. Before move on Polen exorts Can and tells him to be carefully on what he does.

Can speaks to Sanem with a high volume and the audience can understand that he didn’t answer to Sanem call because he was speachless.
