Erkenci Kus – scene 30

First of all, we are going to analize the setting of the scene. The setting is a really important part because it contribute to help us understand what is going on during the scene and last but not least the characterisation of the characters and how they play their roles.

When we speak about setting, we are speaking about the colors the director chooses to use, the places he decides to to set the scene, in what part of the day the scene is set , the weather…

For making a summary,in these scene we see Sanem going to Can’s cottage. Here the director do a slow up on Sanem’s face before a quick shift on the inner space of the Can’s hause. The director makes this decision because he wants that we focus our attention on Polen, who is seatting near Can. Immediatly after the directors makes another slow up on Sanem’s face for making us understand her sadness and her anxious when she sees them together. Infact Polen is talking with Can: he seems that he isn’t hearing what Polen is saying. He is toughtfull, but when he sees Sanem his facial expression change: he seems to be happy when he sees her, but at the same time he doesn’t expected to see Samen there. We can say that here, the director decides to make a contrast between Can’s behavior when he sees Sanem, and his behaviour when he is with Polen. Infact when he is with Polen, he doen’t show any reaction to her words, while when he sees Sanem he asks “What are you doing here Sanem”. Then Polen leaves, maybe because she feels negletted and not consider.

Now there are only Can and Samen. The two protagonist start to argue and Can seems to be very angry. An important element in this part is the volume: the director infact, makes a contrast between Sanem volume, which is low, and the Can’s one, which is loud instead.

Another important contrast, which we understand from the beging of this scene, is the one rappresented by the colours. Infact the director make a contrast between the cold colors and the hot ones. At the beginning we see Sanem arriving with a yellow taxi which is in contrast with the darkness of the night. Then we see the darkness in contrast with the fire inside the wooden cottage that rappresent the hot color. We can say that the contrast between cold and hot color rappresents the behavior of the two protagonists: Sanem , who goes there for talking and she is calm (or the hot color that remaid to tranquility and peacefull) , and Can that is angry and sure of his toughts (or the darkness thet makes you a bit scared).

In the end we can say thet this part is made by contrasts, that remaid you to the protagonists’ behavior.
