A WORD IS DEAD
A word is dead when it is said, some say
I say it just begins to live that day
TITLE Considering the title, I expect the poem to be about communication
I expect the poem to be about the death of communication
I think the poem will be about a form of communication which is no longer used.
The reader is curious to discover/ find out why the word is dead
LAYOUT 2 Tercets
The reader realizes/ can see the text is organized into/arranged into two stanzas of 3 lines each
The poem consists in six lines organized into two tercets; therefore he would like to understand/ find out the reasons why the poet/ poetess arranged the message into two stanzas and, last but not least, the function of each stanza
DENOTATIVE ANALYSIS
The poem expresses two different points of view about the life of a word: some people think that, whenever you say a word, it dies; thee poetess, instead, believes that when someone says a word, it starts to live.
CONNETATIVE ANALYSIS
The poem has got the following scheme: AAB, CDB The first and the second lines are run-on-lines. The use of the coma, after the second line. Syntax is turned upside-down in the two tercets: the first tercets uses a run-on-line in the first two lines, in the second tercet takes place is exactly the opposite |
