Narrative startegies:
- telling (the narrator assumes Connell’s point of view;
- expressing Connell’s body languages (important to male gender because they don’t tell
- what they really think but they express it trough body);
- using of flashback (the text is not always cohesive);
presence of examples about the new idea of time (time= past experiences + future
- expectations) ( not a linear concept of time but simultaneous);
presence of rational analysis of time: from general to particular, uses of temporal adverbs in order to make the reader understand also what is not write (and it is implicit).
CONNELL is selfish:
- he never think about Marianne’s feelings during their hidden relationship, he always
- thinks about his condition and position in the society;
he does not find a solution to his problems in relationship but only in isolation and separation form the other.
FUNCTION OF THE CHAPTER:
- to make clear that people become selfish to survive but it is not always true that being - selfish make people feel good.
to make clear the importance of consciousness
SOME CONSIDERATION ABOUT THE WHOLE NOVEL:
- Connell and Marianne always care about each other but they will be never able to say
- each there what they really think;
communication is the essence of a relationship and this is the reason why Connell and
- Marianne always search for themself but they immediately reject each other;
the only thing they put in common is their body but it is not enough to carry on a relationship;
