A SCARING EPISODE

It was two years ago and I’ve never expected it...

It was the last day of school and we were all very excited. Students walked along the school corridors and they looked cheerful and carefree. Their look just reflected their joyful mood: some of them wore sunglasses, hats and cups and coloured t-shirts.

My friend Carol and I were chatting about what we were going to do that Summer while a guy came towards us and said: “Hi girls, there’s a party tonight to celebrate the school end. Would you like to come?”

Carol looked at me and said: “Yes, we’ll surely be there”. Then the bell rang and we entered the class. After five long hours we could finally left the school.

In the afternoon Carol came to my house and we spent some hours to try on dresses and different hairstyles.

At 9 o’clock p.m. we were finally ready to go out: I chose a light pink dress with a black jacket and a pair of boots while Carol wore a white top and a blue skirt with a pair of white sneakers.

My mother took us to the party and before we left the car she recommended us not to accept lifts from drunk people. She was right, but we were unfortunately too naive to understand it...

The party took place in a large house with a spacious garden full of dancing and singing youngs. The music sounded very loud so it was difficult to hear each other.

We had just entered the house when some of our friends joined us. We enjoyed a lot and time flew fast.

It was about 1 o’clock a.m. when Carol’s parents let us know they couldn’t come to take us home.

I was going to call my dad when our friends told us they were going to leave the house, too and they asked us to go with them. They also proposed we could have a pizza on the way. So we accepted and followed them, but that was a bad choice..

We had just left when I realized they were probably drunk, but it was too late.

The driver went very fast and I was scared, so I urged him to slow up but he said something like: “Keep calm, I know what I’m doing”. But after a few minutes a car suddenly appeared in front of us and turned fast on the left.

We avoided an accident by a whisker!

I remember we were all shouting and terrified. It was one of my most scaring experiences.

This episode touched me deeply and after that I learned to be more responsible and to follow my parents’ advices because they can save our life.
