Normal People

  • DARWIN: species’ evolution and to be adaptable to circumstances;
  • Darwin’s theory created the most important crisis because it deleted the Creation’s theory;

PAG. 239

  • empty space: Marianne feels alone and she misses her relationship;

SITUATION: Alan is represented as someone drunk

REALITY: is our perception of the world therefore it exists only in people’s mind;

PEOPLE: people are what they present and show to the other and what the other think about them;

Alan = he wants to have the control under her sister;

        = he is a bully because he is scared and he wants to be at the centre of 

           attention and the only way to be at it is to use violence;

Connell = he is criticized because he went to the psychologist;

POST MODERNISM: reputation is more important than reality;

                                 : consciousness is replaced by reputation/ appearance;

                                 : people have to find them sense, they are in to world for no 

                                   purpose and they have to invent them;

                                 : to understand oneself is necessary to understand how 

                                   express feelings and emotions.

Marianne and Alan have different perceptions of time

  • Alan’s real intention is not to hurt her sister but to impose his control under her sister

Alan: he is not conform to the circumstance and he used a violent language.
