The incandescent light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1879. It is formed by a filament made out of tungsten, inside a hollow glass bulb filled by a nobile gas kept at low pressure. This was a really important invention because it made light more accessible and more safe for everyone, since this method doesn't imply the use of fire; but even so, it does have a big flaw: if it's being used for an extended period of time, it can get really hot and even cause burns if you are not careful enough!
