I wish you peace when the cold winds blow

Warmed by the fire's glow

I wish you comfort in the, the lonely time

And arms to hold you when you ache inside

I wish you hope when things are going bad

Kind words when times are sad

I wish you shelter from the, the raging wind

Cooling waters at the fever's end

[Chorus x2]

I wish you peace when times are hard

The light to guide you through the dark

And when storms are high and your, your dreams are low

I wish you the strength to let love grow on

I wish you the strength to let love flow

ANALYSIS OF THE SONG "I WISH YOU PEACE"

The object of the present work is to discuss the song "I wish you Peace" by Eagles.

The song is arranged into two separate parts: verse and chorus.

The first part is sung by an  individual voice while a group sings the second part

which represents a refrain highlighting the theme expressed by the speaking voice.

The main idea of the song focuses on the wish for a better future life, in particular,

wishing to the addressèe peace in hard times.

The idea of wish is reinforced through the alliteration of the sound "w" which conveys

union of content and musicality of verse.

Interesting is the use of the present simple, a verb tense that in the English language is used

to express habitual, repetitive and general statements. So, the speaking voice is wishing to

his/her addressee to find different ways to face difficulties at any  time in his/her  life.

Considering the first part the intelligent reader can notice that the song should be divided

into four separate parts. In each part  the speaking voice expresses a single wish for  a

different situation, for example: "I wish you peace when the cold winds blow" (line 1), "I wish

you comfort in the, the lonely time" (line 3).

The poet alternates pictures  of moments needing comfort with different expression

of help that are supported with real details both in terms of natural elements:  " Warmed by

the fire's glow" and a human presence "And arms to hold you".

Considering the second part, the poet only expresses his/her wish  without specifying

how to shape his/her  help.

The last two lines are similar to a refrain, only the last two words are different. In the chorus

the poet introduces abstract elements like  "dreams".

Some repetitions contribute to create a musical effect, as in  "the, the" (line 3) and

"your, your" (line 12). They may convey the idea of emotional involvement in the  speaker’s voice

which is hesitating in choosing the right words to express his/her feelings.

In the end we can understand that the song the thought of  a peaceful life, accompanied by

the speaker’s wish  in any “sad time”.

[Verse 1]

Imagine there's no heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us, only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today

[Verse 2]

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace,You

[Chorus]

You may say I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will be as one

[Verse 3]

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world,You

ANALYSIS OF THE SONG "IMAGINE"

The object of the present work is to discuss the song "Imagine" by John Lennon.

The intelligent reader is immediately involved  by the presence of the pronouns “you”

and “us” used by the poet in his song.

The poem is arranged into three verses and one chorus. Generally the chorus is sung by a

group  of people, while the  verses are sung by only a single individual voice.

All the three verses begin with the word "Imagine", which recalls the title and may be indeed

considered as the core word of the song.

The first line of each  verse represents a thesis that is followed by the argumentations.

The last line of every verse has got only one word that it is a pronoun. And the second to last

is the most important of the song.

Considering the first verse the thesis is "imagine there's no heaven", the poet turns the

description into a symbolic  level.  He uses the words "heaven and hell" and  invites

the listener to live the present day without worrying for any hell or heaven:

between them there is "only sky". This looks like a paradox, an oximore contrasting

opposite ideas.  The adverb “only” connotes something as a restriction, while

“ sky”  indicates a huge and infinite entity. So the poet suggests

that may be the distance/difference between the concepts of heaven and hell  is not that far.

Considering verse two the thesis is "imagine there is no countries". In order to reinforce

his idea the poet uses  other argumentation. This time he encourages the listener to

think of a world without wars, religion or death.  This ideal is not that easy, although

it shouldn’t be “hard to do“. At the same time he provokes our imagination and

wants us to think of all mankind “living life in peace”. So, he wants to give us a

universal message of peace.

The second verse ends with the pronoun you, so it can involve both an impersonal

addressee and the present listener.

Considering  verse three the thesis is "imagine no possession". The poet to reinforce

this thesis uses nouns like “greed”, “hunger” that contain a negative connotation.

He puts them on the same level of “possessions” while opposing them to the idea of a

brotherhood of men sharing all the world. As a consequence there would be no property

and at the same time no greed or hunger.

The most important word in this stanza is “brotherhood” that is the poet’s hope.

The list line of this stanza contains the pronoun "you",  so like verse two it should refer

to a universal addressee and to a real listener.

In the end considering the chorus the poet reports his statement and he wishes that one

day the  listener will join him in imagining and living in a new and truest world.

The final message of this song is the poet’s will to express his conception of an ideal world

and what he thinks that we should change in order to make his wish come true.

The most important means to survive is our  imagination. We  should isolate

from the surrounding world,  its material values and use our imagination to get to

the most real and truest world, “a brotherhood of men”.

PEACE

Verse 1

When my mind is like a battlefield

And my heart is overcome by fear

And hope seems like a ship that’s lost at sea

Verse 2

My enemies on every side

And I’m tempted to run and hide

Your gentle whisper reaches out to me

Chorus

Peace

Holds me when I’m broken

Sweet peace

That passes understanding

When the whole wide world is crashing down

I fall to my knees

And breathe in Your peace

Verse 3

Fiery arrows whistling

The terror of the night sets in

But I can feel Your angels all around

Verse 4

I am resting underneath

The shelter of Your mighty wings

Your promises are where my hope is found

Bridge

I remember who You are

You’re the God who’s never far

So I will not be afraid

God, You always keep me safe in Your arms

I remember who You are

You’re the God who’s never ever far away

So I will not be afraid

God, You always, You always keep me safe

Chorus 2

You give me peace

That holds me when I’m broken

Sweet peace

That passes understanding

When the whole wide world is crashing down

I fall to my knees

And breathe in

I breathe You, I breathe You in

Take a deep breath and be still

And know that You are God alone

ANALYSIS OF THE SONG "PEACE"

The object of the present work is to analyse the song "Peace" by Ed Cash.

The song is arranged into 7 stanzas: 4 verses, 2 chorus and one bridge. The last one is a

sort of refrain, it is repeated two times consecutively. The most important word is peace, it is

repeated a lot of times throughout  the song.

Considering the first verse the poet introduces the time of the poem by "when".

The speaking voice is upset, his/her  mind is in the middle of a battlefield

and his/her heart is frightened,he/she hope " seems like a ship that's lost at sea",

it means that he/she feels like on the point of loosing him/herself.

In the second verse the poet introduces a second person "enemies" and a helper "your

gentle whisper". The speaking voice feels the need to run away and begs  the

helper’s whisper to give him comfort and the will to go on.

The chorus is the most important stanza of the song. Here the poet introduces the most

relevant character of the hole composition.  "Peace" helps the speaking voice when he is

in a difficult situation. The poet connotes  peace with the adjective "sweet"

. Considering  verse four the poet introduces another frightening situation.

Like in the previously stanzas he/she can escape thanks to the help of a third person in

this case it is  "Your angel".

The bridge is like a refrain, it is divided into two parts that are quite similar to each other,

the second one has got more argumentation. Here,  a new presence,  "God", is revealed

 that is repeated four times.

The narration passes on an universal level. God will help the speaker in every situation

 and will rescue  him/her  safe.

In the chorus 2 the poet highlights again and again what he/she has expressed in

the previously stanzas.

Here all the most important words of the song are recalled: "peace and God" and the

 idea of sorrow.

The adjective "Your" is repeated a lot of times in the whole song, it is a presence  that

now the speaking voice knows very well, but but he/she specifies his identity only on the

bridge when he/she addresses to him as  God.

The song is a sort of elegy and gratitude to God, that helps us in every situation of our life.
