TEXTUAL ANALYSIS OF THE SONG: I WISH YOU PEACE

I wish you peace is a wish for peace that the songwriter makes. This song is dedicated not only to his then-girlfriend Patti, but also to the whole world. There is no regular pattern, in fact, the song is in free verse. Moreover it may be noted that the subject pronoun "you" is used in an impersonal form. In the first four lines the singer wishes peace, comfort and refuge. Already here we can see that in this song we will find two different semantic fields. The first semantic field is that of heat, which we can identify with the words: warmed, fire, glow, comfort, arms, to hold, hope, kind word, shelter, cooling waters, while the second is the semantic field of cold, which can be identified with the words: cold, times are sad, raging wind. In the last five lines the singer wishes the person addressed to find love and make it grow, because this will be the only way to be able to move forward and overcome every obstacle. In my opinion the music adds a sense of peace, and serenity to the song.
