Peace – Bethel Music

Verse 1

When my mind is like a battlefield

And my heart is overcome by fear

And hope seems like a ship that’s lost at sea

Verse 2

My enemies on every side

And I’m tempted to run and hide

Your gentle whisper reaches out to me

Chorus

Peace

Holds me when I’m broken

Sweet peace

That passes understanding

When the whole wide world is crashing down

I fall to my knees

And breathe in Your peace

Verse 3

Fiery arrows whistling

The terror of the night sets in

But I can feel Your angels all around

Verse 4

I am resting underneath

The shelter of Your mighty wings

Your promises are where my hope is found

Bridge

I remember who You are

You’re the God who’s never far

So I will not be afraid

God, You always keep me safe in Your arms

I remember who You are

You’re the God who’s never ever far away

So I will not be afraid

God, You always, You always keep me safe

Chorus 2

You give me peace

That holds me when I’m broken

Sweet peace

That passes understanding

When the whole wide world is crashing down

I fall to my knees

And breathe in

I breathe You, I breathe You in

Take a deep breath and be still

And know that You are God alone

the song has the title peace and is organized in 8 stanzas. in the first stanza the author says that his heart is overcome by fear, then he compares his mind to a battlefield and the hope to a ship(nave) lost in the sea with enemies everywhere.

the situation that the speaking voice describes is a situation of fear and insecurity on all sides and he doesn’t know how to get out of this situation so try to hide from this problem and here find peace, this peace hold him when is broken.

When the terror of the night sets in, because the night is dark, sometime is scary but the speaking voice can feel angel all around, like a support, a refuge (un rifugio).

the speaking voice says “your promises are where my hope lies”, letting the reader know that he finds safety and trust in this person,

the speaking voice believes in this person's promises and hopes in it.

The speaking voice compares the person he trusts as a person with mighty wings that can protect him.

then he says that even when the world collapses, even in the most difficult situations this person is present, and the peace that he transmits brings him serenity. Then compares this person to a God but a God who is never far away, a person to believe in and trust and therefore if this person is close to the speaking voice he will not be afraid.

the peace that this person conveys to the speaking voice holds him back when he is broken and when the whole world is falling.

here the speaking voice does a repetition to emphasize the importance and strength that this person has for him.
