“IMAGINE” by John Lennon

“Imagine” was written and performed by John Lennon, in 1971, during the Vietnam War.

Lennon in the song imagines and ideal world without division and wars, with much brotherhood, equality and peace.

In the first part of the song, the poet asks readers to live their lives day by day, and to don’t think about hell or heaven (and because that, I think the poet doesn’t believe in life after death).

In the second stanza, he asks us to imagine a world without divisions, such as countries or religion divisions, with only peace in the world (“nothing to kill or die for”). He also asks people to live in peace each other.

Then he says he could seems like a dreamer, but he believes in peace, and he hopes one day all the people will be like him, so there will be definitely peace and goodness everywhere in the world.

In fourth and final part of the song, he imagines a world with no material possessions, like money, so, in this way, men will think about their neighbours, and not only about money.

In my opinion, this is an incredible song, because the poet has written all the reasons why there are so many wars in the world today, and problems like racism and xenophobia.

But I also think John Lennon is a bit idealistic: in fact, he asks the listeners to live as there is one only world, and this, I think, it’s quite impossible, because rich people think only about their business.

In conclusion, I can say this song could be the hymn of peace and brotherhood of all world because it promotes brotherhood, equality and peace
