The reading this text calls on the smart reader to understand why the poet associates a negative adjective with a religious word. In the first stanza the poet describes the crowd like an ignoble procession. The second stanza strikes the reader, because there are lines longer than the first stanza. In the second stanza the poet wants to make it understood to reader that that the people give importance to work and money. In the last stanza the poet takes distances from crowd, using the singular person.
