CAN’S CHARACTERIZATION

The characters maybe created either in a direct way (showing technic) or in an indirect way (telling technic).

In this case, for the characterization of Can, the director uses both ways of presenting the character: the direct way (showing technic) and the indirect way (telling technic).

Among the various methods used to carry out the indirect characterization, the first we see inside the spot is the way it appears in the eyes of the staff: how they describe him. The female employee, for example, describes him as "a man full of life, he is a wild man”, instead Sanem has a negative idea of him.

The latter presents him as selfish or arrogant. Through showing technic used to bring out the character is the way he behaves, that is the actions he performs and above all by the reaction to Sanem's accusations he appears as an enigmatic figure as he does not get angry and even his look communicates mystery.

Another direct way to present Can is used to Can is presented as a confident and determined person and this can be seen from the determination with which he behaves towards the assistant when he requests a tea. Security also emerges in the way he speaks which appears very decisive.

This also transpires in the computer scene and furthermore, here too, always through a direct way, the diffidence of Can shines through.

Can is a character that we can define as "round" and therefore dynamic: this term is used to refer to a person with a complex personality, a conflicting and contradictory person.

Indeed, the determination and the fact of following the instinct, two fundamental characteristics that emerged at work, are contradicted by the scene in which Can sits on a bench and the image of a kiss comes to his mind. Here he appears very thoughtful and not instinctive. Furthermore, this characteristic is underlined by the atmosphere: therefore, by the music with a melancholy melody and by the starry sky. So, the director is currently using the telling technique to characterize Can.

Later, through the indirect technique, he appears as a man well liked by everyone and that women like, in fact when he passes they all remain enchanted.

In the scene of the printer, he appears enigmatic again and besides he seems to be calm, but at the same time self-confident.

In the following scenes, through the showing technique, the director presents Can as a serious person at work and this can be seen in the way he behaves and because he puts determination into work, without ever stopping.

His confidence also appears in the final scene, which is highlighted as he grabs Sanem. However, this is accompanied by a kind of sweetness in Can that emerges thanks to the scent of Sanem. This perfume indeed brings back a precise memory in Can's mind.
