ATTO V SCENE V
Macbeth laughs at the coming army, but seems board (sembra annoiato) by his lack of fear ( alla mancanza di paura). Suddenly, a woman cries out ( improvvisamente si sente un pianto quasi grido). Seyton investigates and return with news that lady Macbeth has died. ( arriva il servo per investigare su cos’è successo e ritorna con la notizia che lady Macbeth è morta). Macbeth gives a speech about life:
I have almost forgot the taste of fear; Ho quasi dimenticato il sapore della paura
The time has been, my senses would have cool'd To hear a night-shriek; È passato il tempo in cui i miei sensi sis ebbero raggelati nell’ udire un urlo notturno,
and my fell of hair Would at a dismal treatise rouse and stir As life were in't: E i capelli mi si sarebbero rizzati, tremanti, a un racconto pauroso come se in essi vi fosse vita ( i due punti significano cioè)
I have supp'd full with horrors; Ho bevuti l orrore goccio per goccio
Direness, familiar to my slaughterous thoughts Cannot once start me. E il terrore familiare ai miei pensieri omicidi (slaughterous = macellare) non riesco più a farmi sussultare
Macbeth declares that he doesn’t feel because and when the sexton comes to his room to tells the Macbeth react he is living in a period He compares the present time to past times when in front of terrible news hair would fall because of a terrible news. On the contrary at the moment since he as been used to comping with horrors he cannot react of anything. TASTE is a verb that means avere il sapore and Macbeth uses express the fears (senti audio 1 minuto e 46) When the play writer use the lessical choice taste, contributes to make the nature of Macbeth fears more lively. He considers how he has changed intime, why in the past he would have be afraid, now he can’t feel fear anymore. One of the important topic in this soliloquy how people can change in time, how he lost all of his humanity. Indeed in this line he appears to all senses: taste but also hearing. Now comes the most important part of the play and it coincides with the moment when the servent informs, tells to Macbeth that lady Macbeth is died.
The queen, my lord, is dead. La regina mio signore è morta
She should have died hereafter; Sarebbe dovuta morire prima o poi
There would have been a time for such a word. Sarebbe venuto il momento per una parola tale
Domani domani domani
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day Striscia a piccoli passi ( allitterazione) di giorno in giorno

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage And then is heard no more: it is a tale Told by an idiot, La vita non è che un ombra, un povero attore che si pavoneggia e si agita per la sua ora sulla scena (Qui dice che la vita di un essere umano è paragonabile a un pezzo di teatro che un attore deve recitare sul palcoscenico)
full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing. Piena di rumore, che significa nulla
He doesn’t seems to suffer because he has no feelings, and he says that our life is a continuous passing of the time, that from today goes to tomorrow tomorrow and tomorrow. This anaphoric syntax has a dramatic tone to Macbeth reflection. For our life is like a snake che striscia.
So our life in another metaphor is a story told by us But in reality our life means nothing.
