Sara Buiatti 4LSUB 21/02/2021 Write an essay about queen Elizabeth I Queen Elizabeth I was Henry VIII’s and his second wife (Anne Boleyn) ’s daughter. She went to the throne of the England in 1558, succeding her sister, Mary Tudor, and her brother Edward VI. She’s known as the “Queen Virgin” because she decided never to got married and never to have children because she dedicated her life as a queen to serve her kingdom olthrought she loved a man during all her life. She re – esteblished the Anglican Church in 1559 with the Second Act of Supremacy, she didi t because her older sister was catholic so she estabilished the Catholic Church during her governament. In the same year she made an Act of Uniformity were she estabilished the “Book of the Prayer” as the only holy book of the Anglican religion. Elizabeth didn’t worked only in the religious scope, but she also worked for internation peace and on the economical enviroments: England has ever been Scotland’s enemy but for the first part of her governament she established peace with her sister Mary, who was queen of Scotland and catholic, but after, because of the internal tension, she imprisoned her for 15 years and then she justiced her sister. In the meantime, Elizabeth reinforced the fleet and she extended the commerces founding the company of the East Indies with the goal to extended the commerce with the East. England extended its power beating King Philip II of Spain’s Invincible Armada, at the time Spain’s fleet was the most powerfull in Europe. Elizabeth dead in 1608 without leaving any heir, so James VI of Scotland succeded her connecting England and Spain for the first time and he became James I of England. |
