Exercise 11

  • Don’t study all night. You learn better when you’re not tired.
  • Try to have a healthy diet. A healthy breakfast first thing in the morning gives you energy for the whole day.
  • Exercise is important. You’re never too busy to go jogging or swimming. If you don’t have time to play tennis or football, walk or cycle to school. Or go to the gym for an hour.
  • If there isn’t a gym near your home, do exercises for ten minutes every morning.
  • And take regular breaks when you’re studying.

Exercise 18

Well, I Lived in Paris when I was 20 years old. I spent 5 great years there! I didn’t work there, I studied Art at university.
I didn’t have a house of my own, but I shared a nice flat with a young Italian girl, Melissa. She was a singer and she had a lovely voice.
She didn’t play a musical instrument, but some friends of hers did and very well. Our flat was near the Sacre Coeur, the area of the artists and musicians, and we often invited our friends to have dinner.
We didn’t cook very well, but we had great fun all together. We sometimes didn’t sleep much and it wasn’t easy to study the day after… What wonderful memories!

ROBBIE: That’s a pity. Everybody from school came . Amelia waited outside for you for ages.
SADIE: Really? Why? I’m sure she had a great time.
ROBBIE: She brought a flower for your hair. You know, all the girls like flowers and she wanted you to wear the same colour.
SADIE: Yeah, sure. And did you have a good time with Amelia?
ROBBIE: Well yes, I enjoyed it but I missed you a lot.
SADIE: Me?! Didn’t you ask Amelia out?
ROBBIE: Amelia? Are you joking? I wanted to ask you out! Everybody now, even Amelia but it was a surprise. What do you say?
SADIE: Oh… er… well… I’m not… Yes, OK then.

 

Exercise 20-21

Two years ago I passed two week in Puglia with my family. We never went there but I loved that place: I saw trulli, typical Puglia’s abitations, and the sea was beautiful! The best thing was food: I had a lot of taralli and burrata.

    B: Sì, ho comprato quattro biglietti. Vuoi venire?

Exercise 23

  1. Cecilia vuole dire che è nata nel 2001. Come lo esprime in inglese? Che differenza c’è con l’italiano?
    Cecilia deve dire: “I was born in 2001.” Il verbo nascere si esprime con due parole, mentre in italiano
  2. Usando il simple past, in quale forma di frase è importante sapere se un verbo è regolare o irregolare? Perché?
    è fondamentale sapere se il verbo è regolare o irregolare nella forma affermativa poiché in tutte ,e atre forme c’è l’ausiliare did e il verbo va alla forma base.
  3. Osserva le seguenti frasi: Paolo non scrisse una lettera. / Paolo scrisse una lettera? Quando le traduco in inglese, qual è la differenza sostanziale con l’italiano?
    La differenza sta che in inglese, per esprimere una frase negativa, va usato l’ausiliare coniugato in questo caso al simple past e il verbo va alla forma base
  4. Jacopo ha scritto questo messaggio alla sua insegnante d’inglese: Miss Sheridan, I’m sorry but I didn’t the exercises because I didn’t be very well. La professoressa non è stata molto soddisfatta. Perché?
    nella frase ci sono due errori, la frase corretta è la seguente: Miss Sheridan, I’m sorry but I didn’t do the exercises because I wasn’t very well.
