Steps for Textual Analysis

1. Consider the title – to find out possible expectation

2. Look at the layout – to give us some hints and clues about the text

3. Denotative analysis – understand what the speaker is telling to the reader

4. Structure analysis – find out a function for each part of the text

5. Connotative analysis – different levels of comprehension

                             a) phonological level – aspects connected to sound devices (repetition, assonants, …)

                             b) semantic level – poet's word choice

                             c) syntax – the words order (cataphor, anaphor, deviation from the norm, …)

                             d) figures of speech
