Peterson: What We Should Learn from Milton’s Paradise Lost

- God's highest angel Satan/Lucifer, the bringer of light and the spirit of rationality, formented a rebellion against God in Heaven and was plunged into Hell as a consequence

- Satan is a personification of the tendancy of the rational mind to produce totalitarian systems and then to fall in love with them
- Milton's hypothesis was that the spiritual element of the psyche that characterized the rational mind would by its proclivity to produce these totalizing systems and end up casting itself into Hell

- Life is suffering because of society's arbitrary judgement, because there's not much of us but there's a lot of everything else and that's why we don't last that long and our fragile across the multiple domains and also because responsabilities can be laid in our feet

- It is better to adopt the mode of authentic being and orient our speech towards the truth and take resposibility of our own live and perhaps also for the lives of other people
