Exercise 1

  1. Those girls are swimming across the river.
  2. Why are those boys running away from the policeman?
  3. The athletes are running round the track.
  4. We always go to the shops early in the morning.
  5. Be careful! Don't run down the hill! The path is muddy.
  6. It's late! We must run to the bus stop!
  7. Come on, let's go into that hut! It's snowing hard.
  8. Look at those balloons going up the trees!

 

Exercise 2

  1. We are doing a cycling tour of Italy. Today we are travelling from Venice past to Bologna.
  2. Some people think that when a black cat walks across the road in front of you, it is unlucky.
  3. It's easy. You walk toward the bank and the shoe shop and the café is on the left.
  4. During the earthquake simulation drill in class, we have to get under our desks.
  5. Hey Ella, when we finish our homework we can go upstairs and play the drums. Mum's out shopping!
  6. There are about thirteen thousand satellites orbiting rount the Earth.
  7. A: Oh help, Emma! Sam's coming down me! B: Just relax, Zoe! He's only human!

Exercise 3

The fox and the crow
A crafty fox is walking [0] through the forest when he sees a crow flying [1] past him. The crow flies [2] towards a branch of a tree and the fox walks [3] towards the tree. He notices that she has a nice piece of cheese in her beak. “Hmm…” thinks the fox. “How can I get that piece of cheese [4] out of her mouth?” He sits down [5] belong the branch and looks [6] over at the crow. “What a beautiful bird I see in the tree!” says the fox, “What beautiful feathers! I am sure her voice is beautiful too.” The crow looks [7] down at the fox and she is so happy that she opens her beak to sing for the fox. “Caw! Caw!” she cries, and the cheese drops [8] out of her mouth and[9] down the ground. The fox snaps up the cheese and runs [10] away at top speed!
What is the moral? [11] Don’t listen to flattering words.

 

Exercise 4

  1. Go down Abbey Road and turn right. The bookshop is on the corner.
  2. Walk over the pretty stone bridge in the town centre.
  3. The stadium? Hmm… drive along this road, go as far as the traffic lights and then follow the signs!
  4. Walk across that path, go through the woods and past the pond. The kiosk is on the right.
  5. A: Excuse me, can you tell me the way to the taxi rank? B: Go down the main road to the other side, keep walking past the fountain and the taxi rank is there.
  6. I think you are going the wrong way for the city centre. This road is taking us out of the centre instead of into it!

Exercise 18

  1. Maddy would like to go from New York to San Francisco. She has a lot of time to spend there.
    Go by bus! You can see all USA but you don’t have to drive!
  2. Ted and Melanie are in a small medieval village in France.
    Walk: there are a lot of narrow streets and you can’t move if you drive. You can also look everything around you!
  3. Lucio is in Paris and wants to go to London but he’s afraid of flying.
    You can travel by train! Travelling by train is very relaxing and all people before planes travelled by train.
  4. Sarah is on the Greek island of Santorini. She loves the sea and she wants to see the nearby islands.
    Go by ferry! It is easy to take a ferry and all islands have got a ferry service!
  5. Francine is in Spain, in Seville, and she wants to visit Andalusia.
    Go by train! There is a very fast train that connect beautiful Andalusia’s cities like Granada, Seville and Cordoba
  6. Gordon is in New York and he wants to see the Statue of Liberty.
    The Statue of Liberty is on a island, so you have to take a boat.
  7. Jamie is in Salina, a small island in the south of Italy. The streets there are very narrow.
    Move by bike! It is very maneuverable and you can enjoying the view!
  8. Diego is in Rome and he must reach Hong Kong for a job interview as soon as possible.
    You must take a plane! It can cover great distance in small time!

    Hey! Children! Don’t get in the car with those dirty shoes!
  2. Quando viaggio in metropolitana, controllo sempre dove sono. Così so dove scendere.
    When I travel by underground, I always check where I am. So I know where I have to get off.
  3. Non mi piace viaggiare in treno, è troppo lento, ma amo viaggiare in aereo.
    I don’t like travelling by train, it is too slow, but I love travelling by plane.
  4. A: Alex sa andare in moto?
    A: Can Alex ride a motorcycle?
    B: No, ma sta imparando.
    B: No, but he/she is learning.
  5. A: Vai al lavoro in auto domani?
    A: Will you drive to work tomorrow?
    B: Sì. Perché lo chiedi?
    B: Yes, I will. Why do you ask me that?
  6. A: Come andrai a Capri da Napoli?
    A: How are you going from Capri to Napoli?
    B: Con l'aliscafo, anche se è molto caro.
    B: By hovercraft, even though it is very expensive.
  7. A: A che ora arriva il traghetto al porto?
    A: What time is the ferry arriving at the port?
    B: Arriva al porto la mattina presto, ma non ricordo l'orario preciso
    B: It is arriving at the port early in the morning, but I don’t remember exact time.
  8. A: Perché parti con il treno? Di solito viaggi in auto e non prendi mai il treno…
    A: Why are yoiu travelling with train? You generally travel by car and you never take the train.
    B: Sì, hai ragione, ma vado a un convegno in un hotel che è proprio di fronte alla stazione ferroviaria e così non ho problemi per parcheggiare la mia auto.
    B: Yes, you’re right, but I’m going to a conference in an hotel that is just in front of the train station and so I’m not having problem parking my car.

 

 

Me: Hi Laura! How are you?

Laura: Hello Noemi! I’m fine, thanks and you?

Me: I’m fine, too! It is a lot of time we don’t meet! How did you pass last Christmas holidays?

Laura: Oh, I passed them very well. We passed Christmas week in Switzerland.

Me: Wow! It was funny?

Laura: Yes, it was beautiful, there was a lot of snow. And there, chocolate was delicious!

Me: I know! Swiss chocolate is the best.

Laura: And you? How did you pass last Christmas holidays?

Me: Well, we didn’t do nothing special. On Christmas day we had a great lunch and we played some table games. Then we sang a Christmas song: this is our tradition. This year we sang “all I want for Christmas is you”, my grandfather got wrong all of it, we laughed so much.

Laura: Wow! I think you had a great time.

Me: Oh, yes, we had fun.

Laura: I’m happy to taked with you.

Me: Me too. Bye
