Shen Jin is one of Duke Rui’s daughters. She is a spunky lady who also wants to look like a man. Her mother is a lowly maid and often gets bullied by her half-sisters. The Emperor decrees that the second daughter of the Rui family should be married off to the Earl of Yongning, the demon general who has already killed other wifes in the past. Shen Zi doesn’t want to marry General Chu and argues that Shen Jin is the second daughter as they were born at about the same time. Their mother is bullied and subdued so Shen Jin gets fed-up and agrees to the marriage to protect her mother. Suddenly there is a fight and Shen Jin and her maid hide in the woods. A masked general appears and defeats the enemies with his troops. The 2 ladies remain alone and then they walk all the way to General Chu’s residence. Shen Jin sneaks in when no one opens the door for them. She sees General Chu in his study and assumes that he is an aide until his subordinates address him. General Chu is suspicious as the previous 3 ladies sent to him were spies.
