12/04/2021TEXTUAL ANALYSIS – CELEBR8Reading the title I expect the poem to talk about the celebration of something, but the thing that intrigues me is that inside the word, in the final part, a number is inserted, more precisely the number 8. This could represent for the word "celebration", or the celebration of day eight? It is not known; it can only be discovered by reading the text. The poem is arranged into 13 stanzas, with 8 lines each. There is not regular rhyme pattern. The first stanza, which is repeated four more times, every two stanzas, is a hymn to the diversity of the world and the speaking voice invites everyone to appreciate and celebrate diversity, not discriminate against it.In the second stanza the speaking voice explains that the different pigmentation of the skin is due to melanin, and explains that if one hates another person for the colour of the skin, in reality he also hates himself, because he has the same substance as that person. In the third stanza the speaking voice speaks of God and of the different religions. He explains that one must appreciate and embrace all the different faiths, and not discriminate. In the fifth stanza the speaking voice talks about gender difference, and tells how difficult it is for a woman to have a life equal to that of men. He also says that, even if they are like yin and yang, which are two completely opposite things, he knows that they could coexist peacefully and with the same rights. In the sixth stanza the speaking voice says that we must respect the elderly, because sooner or later we will all reach the highest peak, so be the greatest person. In the eighth stanza the speaking voice talks about the diversity in the sexual’s field, and that every time people have to specificate if they are gay, straight or bisexual, and we have to specific category. In the ninth stanza, the speaking voice explains how trans people need to define their identity and want to be protected like all other people. In the eleventh stanza, the speaking voice says that more and more people with disabilities are discriminated against and are not given opportunities. But he explains that these opportunities are denied him with the excuse that they are slow, but in reality, it is only the world that does not know how to be careful what they really want.In the twelfth stanza, the speaking voice explains that none of us can even imagine what a refused person can go through, who runs away at night, leaving everything, only to find a place to live and to redeem himself. Therefore concluding the message that this poem wants to send is to not discriminate against anyone and to celebrate the difference between people. |
