How does the movie you have just watched connect to Medieval Romance?

In the present movie the intelligent watcher would find a lot of elements concerning the Medieval romances.

Firstly, Romance is a literary genre originated in France and referred to the chivalric culture.  Romances were narratives, in either poetry and prose, which describes the spiritual quest or heroic deeds of a knight, usually set in a fairy tale setting. In the video the intelligent watcher can note the typical supernatural medial romances’ settings, the castles. Castles in the romances are the settings in which lives the lady and take place the meetings of the kings’ knights.

Besides usually the plot of the medieval romances includes a knight who undertakes a dangerous adventure to win a lady’s favour. Therefore romances are usually characterized by love stories, in some cases tragic, between a knight and a princess. Mainly for this reason nowadays we use the word Romance to refer to romantic love stories. Some of the movie’s scenes are characterized by kisses and affection, typical of romantic love stories.

Moreover the heroic deeds of the knight are usually characterized by duels with dragons, monsters or other knights, magic, spells, supernatural events and objects or poisons. Also some scenes of the “medial romance movie” are characterized by some of these romances’ characteristics, like duels, dragons, supernatural characters like the genie of the lamp or the magic carpet.

Romance reaches his peak in the middle ages but it doesn’t stop to exist after the end of this period, indeed it condioned also the following literary genre, like the Victorian and the Gothic literatures, up to the nowadays’ films, cartoons, toys, romantic stories or comedies. In the present movie for examples the intelligent reader can identify Medieval Romance’s features in scenes of films like “Titanic” and “Harry Potter” or cartoons like “Adventure time” or “Aladdin”.
