Exercise 2

  1. The poet is debating with himself and he is addressing to god
  2. LIGHT stands for SIGHT and for LIFE. With the phrase “DARK WORLD” the poet expresses the world in which he lives that is full of sins. The contrast between LIGHT and DARK underline the inferiority of the poet because of he can’t see.
  3. The word TALENT, in the third line has two different meaning:
    - For consonance with Italian (talento) it means ABILITY, GIFT;
    - Literary it means COIN, connected with puritan theory and importance of work.
  4. His maker is God
  5. He wants to serve his God more than ever but he fears being considered inadequate by Him

Exercise 3

He asks himself how he can serve the God with his handicap. The God gives him the poetic talent but he can’t use it because he is blind. In this part there is a sort of complain and he is bit ribellious.
