Analysis of the characterisation of a F4’s member (silenzioso, nei discorsi del Gruppo interviene solo se interpellato, pensoso, assente)

The present work is meant to find out the strategies the director used to characterise the character “Huaze Lei”, a member of the F4.

First of all, to connote the character, the director used the strategy of the dressing style. Thanks to the clothes the character wears the intelligent reader can suppose he is of a high social class and maybe his family is rich.

The main strategy used by the director to create the character of Huaze is the showing technique, indeed the watcher can create a personal idea of the character observing his actions in the different scenes of the episode.

Indeed, the fact that, while two components of the F4 ’re playing a joke on the character that seems the most arrogant of the group, he sits in a chair in a serious way make the watcher suppose Huaze is a peaceful character, maybe the calmest of the group.

In this scene, however, also transpires a cold and haughty behavior of Huaze, who seems to feel superior to the other characters.  This coldness and feeling of being superior of the character are highlighted again in a subsequent scene, in which, at a request of the protagonist, Huaze answers in a grumpy and hasty way, without even looking her into the eyes.

Moreover Huaze is connoted in different scenes as pensive characters, indeed when he is with the group F4 he is always absorbed in his thoughts, he has an empty look and speaks with the others  only if he is consulted.

Going on with the episode the character of Huaze seems to change: indeed, towards the middle of the episode, the Lei seems to open up to the protagonist, speaking and smiling to her. This change makes the reader suppose the character’s coldness of the first part of the episode was only the result of character’s shyness.
