ULYSSES

This poem is written as a dramatic monologue: the entire poem is spoken by a single character, whose identity is revealed by his own words. The lines are in blank verse, or unrhymed iambic pentameter, which serves to impart a fluid and natural quality to Ulysses's speech. Finally, the poem is divided into four paragraph-like sections, each of which comprises a distinct thematic unit of the poem.

Ulysses doesn't love his life. he hasn't no profits to live with an old wife and dole out rewards and punishments for the masses who live in his kingdom.

Ulysses isn't able to live a tranquil life in his kingdom. He wants to travel. he desires to live every moment of his life. He has enjoyed the most important experiences as a sailor who travels the seas. In his travels he met a lot of cities with their manners, climates, councils, governments. Moreover he fighted the war in the land of troy with his peers . All these experiences have formed him. Moreover the life is not the simple act of breathing because the life contains much novelty.  Now he is a different person but he doesn't want to stop to learn and act because the life is a continuous development of the spirit.

Ulysses will begin again to travel and the throne of his kingdom will be left to his son, Telemachus. He praises the qualities of the son, his prudence, dedication, and devotion to the gods. Telemachus will do his work of governing the island while Ulysses will do his work of traveling the seas.

In the final stanza Ulysses recalls his sailors. He worked and travelled with them during his life but now they are old. Ulysses is sure who his sailors have the potential to do something noble before the death. he wants to travel to seek a newer world. He will not stop until he will not die. Perhaps, he suggests, they may even reach or the paradise of summer described in Greek mythology. The will to know moves Ulysses and his sailors to old lands. Moreover it helps to forgot who are old.
