Ulysses
Denotative Analysis of the first part of the work.
The poem is organised into five parts.
"Ulysses" starts with a speaking voice that is Ulysses' voice. He expresses in a rational way, his opinion about the situation that he is living.
Ulysse explains that his role of king makes little profits in that society composed by "savage race" that "hoard, and sleep, and feed, and know not me" anyway he does not leave from this place, and the poet will explain why in the second stanza.
The second stanza began with an important sentence "I will drink life to the lees" that highlight all Ulysses' desire to live the life in a deep and intensive way. He remembers that during his life he had "enjoy greatly" and " suffer greatly" but thanks that strong feelings "I am became a name", that means that he made his identity, his personality, he learnt to know himself. Ulysse goes on to tell his story, and he says that thanks to his "hungry heart" he had seen and know much and he is a part of all that he had met, he was a really active man. It's just his full past that makes him deeply sad for his idle present.
