Correction of a short essay about Eveline.
The purpose of the present essay is to analyse Joyce's “Eveline” from Dubliners a short story about a teenager who live during the first decades of the 20ieth century.
Thanks to his narrative choices the novelist is able to convey the mental confusion and the emotional weakness of a nineteen old girl from the working class unable to take a decision about her life. The third person omniscient narrator subtlety enters character's minds adopted the interior monologue through which the intelligent reader can have access to Eveline's future or expectations.
The technique of telling together with the same use of showing makes perceptible the nature of a paralysed human being unable even to have a point of view, make a decision and act. And this possible thanks to the use of the language of sense impressions and adds a tissue of dust to her existence so that the grey colour of Dublin is but the grey confusion of the characters consciousness.
