Domande Oliver Twist p.13            Simone Nicola VC

Es.2  p.13

1.Tenses like: “Oliver and his companions got voracious wild with hunger. The master in his cook’s uniform, stationed himself at the copper. A long grace was said over the commons. The master aimed a blow at Oliver’s head with the ladle, pinioned him in his arms” are very realistic.

2. I think the writer sympathizes with the young poor guys because he describes the scene with a “sad” irony and in this way he underlines the contradictions and the misery of the Victorian age (for example:

“A long grace, who is said over the short commons” ).

3.I think the writer’s criticism is against the middle class and his behavior: on one hand, they represent themselves as generous and in a very-good way, but on the other, we understand that they are often really “parsimonious” and that they are not the nice persons that they want to show us.

Es 3.

a. Tortures, starvation for three months, voracious wild, gruel par diem(brodaglia al giorno) , a council was held, lots were cast.

b. The master aimed a blow at Oliver’s head with the ladle ,pinioned him in his arms, and shrieked aloud for the beadle.

Mr.Blumble (the beadle, sorvegliante) :” Mr. Limbkins,I bed your pardon, sir! Oliver Twist has asked for more!”

Mr.Limb: “Thath boy will be hung!”
