The Love of Art for Art's Sake - exercises pages 63-64
1) The best experiences last one moment, they are very short; a person has to look for ecstasy in order to live best experiences: ecstasy can be reached throughout art and song because the poetic passion, the desire of beauty, the love of art for art's sake provide the highest quality of each moment. In living ecstasy the experience isn't useful, isn't aimed to something else, because the experience itself is the end.
2) Success in life consists in experiencing ecstasy as many times as possible; failure is a monotonous, repetitive life subdued to roles and to habits.
Life's highest quality is provided by art: art lets someone to feel a lot of pulses during life and to get the impression to extend his/her existence to a longer span of time. Pulsations are moments that reach the highest quality, the ecstasy and that lose all aims because they completely satisfy one's pleasure.
