Pamela is an epistolary novel by Samuel Richardson. He took the name of the novel from Sydney pastoral romances (Arcadia).
It is arranged into letters written by Pamela to his parents. The narrator coincides with the protagonist and so there is an omniscient narrator.
Pamela is a young woman of fifteen years old and she is a maid at the house of a gentlemen (Mr. B.). When her mistress dies, her son tries to seduce her. At first the protagonist feels afraid and repels him not to loose her virtue. Time passing she falls in love with him at end they get married. Now I am going to analyze “letter XXI”. In the extract Pamela writes a letter to her parent to tell them the situation and to inform them she is going to leave the house: she is afraid of the behave of Mr. B. There is also an other character: Mrs. Jervis. She is a servant in the same house and she is a friend of Pamela. The letter reports the dialogue between the two women. From these words the reader understands that Mr B. Is really interested in the girl and that he doesn’t want the girl to know about it.
The letter speaks about the different social classes of 18th century and it report the behaviour of women and men of that time.
