The name derives from the first four British monarchs of the House of Hanover: George I of Great Britain, George II of Great Britain, George III of the United Kingdom, and George IV of the United Kingdom, who reigned in continuous succession from August 1714 to June 1830.

It was a period of considerable social, political and cultural revolution. Great Britain and Ireland emerged as a great power.
What are the main characteristics of Georgian style?
It developed from the Roman Palladian style ..
Consequently the style was inspired also by Greek style .
The peculiarity of Georgian architecture are:
-Neoclassicism's revival
-Proportion and balance;
-Simple mathematical counts that were used to determine the proportions
-Symmetry
-Adherence to classical rules
As a consequence Georgian designs usually lay within the Classical orders of architecture and employed a decorative vocabulary derived from ancient Rome or Greece.
This style also spread in the English colonies.
It was used not only in church or in public architectures, but it was largely employed in domestic architecture .
