The short story Eveline is arranged in three parts.

The function of the first part is to introduce the main character. The narrator shows us a description of Eveline by her point of view. The narrator talks about Eveline as he is Eveline. He describes her social background, her memories and her parents. In this part are introduced also her father, mother, brother and last but not least her boyfriend Frank.

In the second part the narrator explain Eveline’s matter. Her father doesn’t accept Frank as her daughter’s boyfriend. There is also a flashback that shows a wrangle between the father and Frank.

The last part is the end of the short story. This is the only part where characters interact on the scene. Eveline was going on board with Frank but at the end she stopped and remained on the pier with her indecision.
