THE SOLITARY REAPER
I expect the poem to deal with feelings because there are words like solitary and nature because there is the word reaper.
In this poem there are 4 stanzas:
In the first stanza the pet introduces the reaper. She is singing a melancholy song and reaping the grain.
In the second stanza the writer says that the women's song is wonderful and creates apleasant effect.
In the third stanza the poet tries to understand the content of the woman's song.
In the fourth stanza he says that the song remained in his heart.
The rhyme scheme is ABABCCDD.
In the poem there are 3 main semantic levels:
- music (song, music, listen...)
- nature (natural, hill, field)
- feelings (unhappy, melancholy, hearth...)
Among the three levels the most important one is the one of feelings. As a consequence the poem focuses on emotions. We can see an inversion in the tenth line of the fourth stanza.
