I first heard about Chesil Beach when I read the short novel by Ian McEwan titled “On Chesil Beach”.

It is located on the Dorset coast, in the South of England. It is a barrier beach (or shoal, sandbar, sandbank). A barrier beach is a linear landform within or extending into a body of water, typically composed of sand, silt or small pebbles.

Chesil Beach is composed of pebbles.
