SHE DWELT AMONG THE UNTRODDEN WAYS
CONSIDER THE TITLE
The poem may deal with a lady, a mysterious lady who dwelt among untrodden ways. Perhaps it deals with an angelic woman, somebody who is considered by everyone a good person.
DENOTATIVE ANALYSIS
After an accurate reading of the poem, we can see that in the first part of the poem there is a praise of a young lady that dwelt among untrodden ways. She is loved by everybody, because she is maid, she is pure, she has a good reputation.
In the second part of the poem, the poet makes comparisons to describe the beauty, but also the effect that the presence of the lady produces to other people; she is like a violet which sprouts from mossy stone, she is like a fair star which shines alone in the blue sky.
Everybody likes her, she is so mysterious, none really knows where she lived, because she is reserved. Only few people knows where she died, and this creates n the poet a sense of sadness that we can deduce from the lines. Perhaps the wish to know her encouraged the poet to write this poem.
STRUCTURE ANALYSIS
The text is arranged into 3 stanza, each stanza is composed on 6 verses. In the first stanza the figure of the lady is introduced like an angel whom everybody may praise or love; in the second one the poet expresses some comparisons, and in the third one he finally admits that everybody would know who the lady really is.
