Summary of Postmodernism.


After the two world wars, literature and art lived a period of reconstruction. New philosophies were born: Existentialism and Neorealism. Existentialism was a philosophy that believed in peace, in the absurdity of life and in solidarity. Neorealism is a revitalisation of Realism.

After this period the Postmodernism started. It is a cultural movement developed during the sixty's. It is a revision of Modernism and Existentialism. As a matter of fact it do not believe only in western values as Modernism, but it think that other values and cultures are important too.

The beginning of Postmodernism is characterized from some mass protest against the mass culture, materialism, consumerism, women's inequality, segregation and racism.

The philosophical movement of Postmodernism influenced every kind of art: literature, figurative art (with the pop Art) and the architecture (where manifestation of Postmodernism is most clearly visible.
