Exercise about Mrs Dalloway (look at the text given on the 7th January)
a) Is the point of view the same for the two narratives (physical actions and thought)?
The point of view is not the same for the two narratives because the first one is that of an 3rd person narrator telling events as they happen, while the second one belongs (in this case) to Mrs Dalloway and refers to her interiority.
b) Has the time of narration any relation with chronological time? Remember that most of what is told takes place in Mrs Dalloway’s mind.
The time of narration hasn’t got any relation with chronological time because, being the transcription of a character’s consciousness presents events has they are perceived. Besides, the time of interiority is the sum of past memories, present events and future expectations.
